Notes from meeting:

April Sullivan discussed the point of the meeting and how it came about. Gave background information on VSA arts of Texas. Resources available for artists with disabilities including workshops, exhibitions, and calls for art can be found at the VSA arts of Texas web site..

April also talked about resources for artists at the Texas Commision on the Arts website.

Jen Lovvorn talked about Fort Worth Public Art opportunities for artists as well as resources for artists through the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Artists can find out about public art programs through the Fort Woth Public Art website and about the Community Arts Center at Community Arts Center website. Some resources include exhibition opportunities, an artist registry, and the Texas Artists Coalition membership program.

The artists talked about what type of art they do and shared resources. They would like to have some sort of Co-op gallery that they could volunteer to work at and sell their art. Sheila Mann talked about the Achievement Through the Arts group in Dallas for artists with mental illness. Todd Thomas mentioned that he could do a workshop for the group on how to photograph artwork. He also mentioned some websites available for artists such as ArtMajeur.com, absolutearts.com, MyArtProfile.com, and ArtScuttlebutt.com.

Next Meeting:

A next meeting date has not been scheduled. Since the group is so small and all have email, we discussed having the artists meet by email with a quarterly face to face meeting.

Introductions and showing artwork Joe has work up currently at Chicken Scratch in Weatherford. This gallery/café does rotating exhibitions. www.chickenscratchbistro.com

Artists from Dallas are part of a group called ATTA, Achievements Through the Arts, and they have a show up at the Half Price Books in Dallas.

Artists can post up to six images of their artwork on the VSA arts of Texas website at www.vsatx.org. Send 6 digital images, an artist statement, title, size, price, and contact information by emailing April Sullivan.

Current calls for art such as San Antonio’s Goodwill Good Bytes Café and the VSA arts of Texas “Vision.Strength.Access.Arts For All.” Exhibitions are listed online at www.vsatx.org.

Joe suggested joining the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Their website is www.fwcac.com. They have an email list for artists, calls for art, and a membership.

Another call for art mentioned was the Texas Biennial. http://texasbiennial.com/about.htm. The deadline for the group show has been extended to June 30, 2008.

The Webb Gallery in Waxahachie was suggested as a location to show outsider or folk art. www.webbartgallery.com
