Current Exhibits

Natural Expression
Valerie Short & James Nelson
January 16 – February 10, 2012
Reception: Saturday, January 21 6-8 pm
A two person show with works on silk by Valerie Short and wood sculpture by James Nelson.

Valerie Short is an artist who graduated in 2011 with a BFA in Studio Art from Texas State University in San Marcos. “My work is a constant journey of experimentation with silk, markers and thread. I have a passion for art that is representative of my spontaneous nature, love for drawing, and love for sewing. I love puzzles, minute detail, and ambiguity. The technique and object I begin with merges into a new shape and direction and my work has a kinetic, flowing quality to it."

James Nelson is a sculptor, working with wood, stone, and plastics to enhance the beauty of his raw materials. James loves the abstract and his realistic work is strongly stylized. He uses native Texas woods whenever possible, including Mesquite, Texas Red Cedar, Cedar Elm & Cherry. James loves the beauty of wood and often says that “a bad day of carving is always better than a good day at work”.
