Hello. My name is John Gregory Evans. My artwork medium is pen & ink [stipple & line art] utilizing maritime subject matter as well as religious artwork, nature, birds, anything nautical and I am exploring portraits and oils as a secondary medium. I also am highly interested in calligraphy combined with artwork utilizing scripture and poetry that I write. I enjoy Byzantine Calligraphy and Illumination though I am still learning to master. I have also been successful in various types of woodcarving; line carving, chip carving, relief and I have completed one figure carving. This also I am trying to master though my chosen area to specifically concentrate on is pen & ink.
I am serious to become an entrepreneurial artist and build my own clientele. I desire strongly to participate and share and grow through VSA arts of Texas and learn all I can. I am looking for friendship with other artists and am willing to teach what I know.
I live in San Antonio, Texas and am 52 years of age. I have been drawing in pen & ink for the past 5 years. I have studied Drafting & Design in the 70's for about 1 year. This is where I received some instruction in graphics and in conjunction with woodcarving designs learned how to design my own work.
I like to work from the soul. I receive an inspiration or prompting and just go with it. I research my drawings as well.
