I have been interested in art since childhood. I spent much time as a child out doors, and I looked for "magic places"---where I could feel God. Some of these places were on the shady side of the base of a tree, or pools by the edge of our creek, or a hidden place in the reeds by the shore of our pond. My painting of stones is of a "magic place." My interest in paleontology began also in childhood, with my digging and collecting rocks, imagining how the land looked long ago.
My circular designs are based on a childhood fascination with the glass doorknobs at my grandmother's antique Pennsylvania home. Depending on the hour, the light falling through the doorknobs transforms their appearance. I painted these designs recently in honor of my grandmother who just passed away in Dec. 2007.
As an adult, I suffer from an anxiety disorder, depression, and cardiomyopathy, a serious and chronic disease of the heart. I use art to create a meditative state, to reduce fears of my illness, and feel God.
