VSA Texas, Winter 2013 Online Fundraiser
Our Fundraiser Starts November 18, 2013. We are partnering with Earth Presents to raise funds to purchase Audio Description Equipment to provide services for blind or visually impaired patrons so they can enjoy more fully films, theater, ballet, and museums. The estimated cost for the Audio Description Equipment is $3000 so we ask for your generous support of our fundraiser. VSA Texas will receive 50% of every item purchased.
Earth Presents produces 100% recycled and recyclable gift wrap products. Earth Presents produces wrapping paper and gift tags out of 100% post-consumer recycled paper that is processed chlorine free. They use vegetable-based inks that make the paper fully recyclable. And the matching ribbon bows are made from recycled plastic bottles!
Earth Presents partnered with the former VSA DC, an affiliate of VSA, The International Organization on Arts and Disability. Their whimsical designs are derived from the wonderful spirit of the artists themselves, student artists with disabilities.

Opening Minds, Opening Doors
Promoting Self Advocates as Speakers
This project will train self-advocates to make presentations at conferences and other events in Texas. Through these presentations, speakers will increase public awareness about issues facing people with disabilities and the public policies that affect them. We plan to train self-advocates on narrative storytelling, presentation techniques, and how to use slideshows, videos, and other technologies. We will support the self-advocates by working with conference planners to market their skills as effective and dynamic presenters. Through speaking opportunities and small group interactions, self-advocates will also learn how to become role models and mentors for other participants in the project.
Financial Support for Opening Minds, Opening Doors is provided by the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, with Federal funds* made available by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
*$125,000 (75%) DD funds; $41,666 (25%) non-federal resources
